Connections = community.
Who knows, we may be connected! Below are a few of the organizations and people with whom I work and play - maybe you know someone who knows me; it's a small world.
MyYute Soccer
My Yute soccer was established by Rovel Sparkes and Joanna da Luz to provide 6-12 year olds who might not otherwise get a chance to access a diverse social, economic, and cultural environment and an opportunity to experience “the beautiful game.” I am on the advisory team of My Yute and participate as a volunteer coach at the various free soccer camps it offers in the East Bay each year.
Africari Football Club
Founded over 20 years ago, Africari has four teams playing in the East Bay Senior Soccer League. I play for the over-40s team, BigTime, along with teammates from the US, Liberia, Belize, Guyana, Surinam, Jamaica, Trinidad, Nigeria, Mexico, Chile, Germany, Lebanon and Yemen.
BORP
BORP - the Bay Area Recreational Outreach Program - is the leading provider and promoter of accessible sports and recreation opportunities for children and adults with physical disabilities in the greater San Francisco Bay Area. I am a licensed referee with BORP for Power Soccer, a version of the game played on a basketball court by athletes in electric wheelchairs. If you've never seen it, then you should check it out at the BORP website or go catch a game. BORP coach, Chris Finn, is also the US national coach and has led the national team to the World Cup title for the last two tournaments in Japan and France.
